Who am I?

Who am I?

I am African blood + unknown = x
I am diluted…
Wishing to be pure
Wishing to be more… like you…
Wishing to be painted in your exact hue
Envying you
With all sincerity
Coveting your level of purity
For this shade of skin leaves me pondering
And guessing…
Seeking answers
Vexing…
Over this mysterious truth that…
I am African blood + unknown = x
I am ambiguous and complex
My melanin is less
My ancestry has been breached and modified
I’ve heard I’m of Indian descent
But am I Santee or Chicora tribe?
It has also been said that I too am French
Perhaps, a Louisiana Purchase descendant?
It is known that great-great granddaddy Roy
Had blue eyes, 6 girls, and 11 boys
And yet there is more…
His parents came to Ellis Island from
either Sweden or Switzerland’s shore?
Were unsure…

I am African blood + unknown = x
I am diluted…
Wishing to be pure
Wishing to be more… like you…
Wishing to be painted in your exact hue
Envying you
With all sincerity
Coveting your level of surety
For this shade of skin leaves me pondering
And guessing…
Seeking answers
Vexing…
Over this mysterious truth that…
I am African blood + unknown = x
